The tech training nonprofit NPower has announced Timicka Anderson, Global Industry Head of Consumer Products and Retail at Citi, will be the commencement speaker at this year’s virtual graduation ceremony honoring young adults and veteran trainees who completed the tech training program.
The virtual graduation ceremony for the Spring 2022 cohort will take place on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at 7 pm EST. 372 young adults and military trainees from regions across the US will be honored for their study of technology leadership. The graduation ceremony will honor graduates from Brooklyn, Harlem, Jersey City, Newark, Baltimore, Detroit, Dallas-Fort Worth, St. Louis, and San Jose.
Families, partners, and alumni who would like to watch the virtual ceremony can RSVP here.
Through a client-centered approach and deep commitment to relationship-building, Anderson serves as an inspirational leader, dedicated to exceptional service and global progress.
This is the fifth NPower class to transition from an in-person to a virtual learning environment in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The first virtual graduation was in August 2020.
NPower will continue its virtual training model throughout 2022. Applicants can apply now on the NPower website. The next class starts in Summer 2022. Young adults, ages 18-26 and military veterans and their spouses can apply to the Fall 2022 class by clicking here.
Timicka is Co-Chair of the Command Shift Coalition with NPower – a national consortium of women and allies that advocate for strategies that invest in and inspire the advancement of young women of color in tech careers.
She said she hopes to inspire this year’s graduating class to leverage their personal experiences and diversity and to pay it forward.
“Our students have demonstrated a track record of analytical problem-solving, strategic vision-setting, and excellence in client delivery,” said Timicka. “Now that they’ve completed paid internships, it’s their time to show today’s business leaders that they are ready for the new opportunities presented to them. They must also be ready to go after it as well.”
About NPower
NPower is a national nonprofit that is committed to advancing race and gender equity in the tech industry through skills training, real world experience, support and mentorships. The organization has helped young adults from underserved communities and veterans move from poverty to the middle class by training them with a range of tech skills and placing them in quality jobs.
Students who enter the free, six-month training program, earn industry-recognized certifications and graduate with the competencies of an IT professional with one to two years of experience.
NPower also places students in paid internships with corporate and nonprofit organizations. Eighty percent of NPower graduates get a full-time job or continue their education. Not only is NPower changing life trajectories for individuals from vulnerable communities, but they are also strengthening the overall competitiveness of U.S. businesses hamstrung by today’s limited pool of IT talent.
