Jinzhong, Shanxi, China – August 30, 2026 – A practical ship-floor initiative at WINDUS has streamlined compoud hole machining for steel wheels. Recently, the “Optimization of Compound Hole Drilling with a Single Setup”, developed by Li Xin and his team from the WINDUS Production Process Department, completed on-site validation and has entered full production.
Previously, machining the flange face holes and angled oil holes on the workpiece required separate operations. Due to workpiece weight and required machining angles, the entire operation involved three rounds of lifting, repositioning, and repeated alignment. This not only consumed significant time and labor but also introduced positioning errors from repeated clamping, compromising hole-to-hole consistency.
To optimize the process, the team designed and built a custom rotary drilling fixture in-house. Equipped with a manually rotatable base body, quick-acting clamps and a pin-locking positioning mechanism, the new fixture enables continuous drilling of both the flange face holes and the angled oil holes in a single setup.
By reducing setup operations from three to one, the new fixture eliminates unnecessary crane handling, reduces operator fatigue, and improves both machining efficiency and dimensional consistency.
From problem identification and fixture design to trial machining and final implementation, this improvement was completed entirely on the shop floor. It reflects WINDUS’s practical engineering approach — turning frontline operational challenges into stable, repeatable manufacturing solutions.
